Reigns Her Majesty Steam

The switching mechanic requires special timing for both platforming and puzzle solving and, due to the nature of each level’s short-form design, there is a timer along with a time goal that speedrunners can try to beat. The first title takes roughly two hours to beat (with an extra hour added to the Hyper Drive Edition), and while the game does respectfully introduce its mechanics through fresh and engaging levels, around halfway through Mighty Switch Force! The title, along with the ‘Hyper Drive Edition’, sees the player completing over twenty short-form platforming levels in which Patricia is able to turn certain blocks on and off through the press of a button as she attempts to catch five of the sisters per level. The problem with this design philosophy, which continues into the other games on this collection, is that it doesn’t lend itself incredibly well to long play sessions; therefore, the games don’t feel at home on home consoles, such as the PS4 and Xbox One. Posted: 19 AprilThis is a fun little kingdom simulator, for about an hour-and-a-half. After that, it quickly overstays its welcome and becomes very monotonous. The gameplay is very simple. You play as a queen, and you are presented with a picture of a character and some dialogue. You can respond by swiping left or right, and then you move on to another picture and another decision. Your decisions influence the game, and you have to balance four stats carefully: Piety, popularity, authority, and economy. If any one of those stats gets too high or too low, you will most likely be killed off. While certain events will add new cards to the deck, which adds more variety, before long you start seeing the same events over and over, and the gameplay just gets repetitive.

Too few events to cycle through, and really easy death by unexpected means (I got trampled by adoring subjects with flowers all too often) leads to a tedious experience in the long term. However, it's a very cheap game that doesn't pretend to be more than it is. I paid $1.50 for it, and I certainly got a $1.50 worth of enjoyment out of it, and I will probably check out the Game of Thrones version now that I've tried this.
