Astro Tripper Parts

I'm a PS3 owner, so half the games I own don't have trophy support. But I constantly find myself playing the ones that do have trophies, because it feels like that little carrot gives me a reason to keep playing.
The funny thing is that I don't think I'll ever get all the trophies in any of the titles that I own. I've beat 'adventure' games such as Uncharted and Bioshock, only to end up with something like 40% of the trophies, and don't have the will to play through them several more times to complete the laundry list.Several of my 'arcade' type games have their own sets of trophies, but the last ones end up being insanely difficult to get.
Age of Booty's last challenge is nearly impossible, and I've been chipping away at Astro Tripper for the past few weeks. If the PS3 version of Civilization Revolution had trophies, I'm sure I'd have the platinum on that one, but just because I've thrown a god awful amount of time at it, but that's a rare thing for me to do with most other games. Some titles just have an outright insane amount of things you'd need to do to complete all the trophies/achievements. Ever taken a look at the Street Fighter 4 list? Even for someone who loves the game and spends quite a bit of time playing it, it's still insanity.Anyway, let's talk about trophies / achievements.
I got all the trophies for Street Fighter IV - I'm also on the verge of getting all the achievements for Street Fighter IV (recently got a 360 and that version of the game with it). Admittingly it does take a while. On that note, its the only game I've gotten all achievement/trophies for.Personally I'm just a completionist and try to finish everything in the game. I've finished my 30th playthrough of MGS4, 10 more to get all the emblems/ribbons (currently working on the Panda ribbon - finish the game in more than 30 hours) - View image here. I find achievements do make some games more interesting, but have only maxed out a few XBLA games and easier disc based games on my 360. Just got all my trophies for Noby Noby Boy though - View image here: -One thing I like them is they provide additional challanges. I use to always play games on the easiest setting, but now I will bump it up if there are achievements for it. It feels worth it.
I like games that also have little challenges in specific parts like only using certain weapons or items. I've gotten all achievements on eight or nine out of the. 32 games on my profile right now. (One of those I 'technically' have 990/1000 because of a glitch, but believe me, I filled the requirements for it)I like doing them to extend some playability, but there are ones I refuse to even try for. Ones that are just obscenely time consuming and terribly boring tend to be no-gos. But in general, yeah, I try and get at least 75% of them or so, barring special circumstances (multiplayer ones for games I don't have any interest in playing MP, ones that don't have a GS value that ends in 0 or 5, ones that would take me two years of playing Gears of War 2, etc)Most of them are fun, or some provide me with an actual benefit in-game directly or indirectly so they work for me.Also it lets me make terrible blingee images of my Halo 3 guy.
Originally posted by jgtg32a:PsionWhat was the glitch? It was Mercenaries 2, the 'shoot 50 drivers through the windshield' one. In total I've probably shot 200 over two characters but it simply refused to trigger. Several other people got it and several other OTHER people had the same problem I did.
For some unrelated reasons I was thoroughly disgusted with Pandemic and that game, so I sold it shortly after getting it and bought Saints Row 2 instead. A far superior choice. One day I might borrow a friend's copy and try yet again to get that achievement just for my OCD tendencies, but not today. I enjoy them, but it's unfortunate when developers abuse them as a cheap way to increase the life of the multiplayer. Resistance 2 really didn't need that 10,000 kills trophy. It was a nice surprise that Naughty Dog went the opposite with the only multiplayer trophies being to try it.I've also seen way too many glitches which can be especially frustrating, and something developers should be more careful to avoid.
I had one trophy in Burnout Paradise that I could never unlock (Complete 10 Timed Challenges) and is known as one of the many trophy bugs in that game. The solution of starting a new save file also didn't work for me, but somehow my PS3 took pity and suddenly gave me the platinum. So now I've got a platinum for game where not everything was unlocked, heh. Achievements are the ruin of video games.and I love them!Yeah, they have plenty of benefits in looking at / playing the game in a way you might not have before, but I'm often obsessive / OCD about them.
I forget what I'm at, but I've got about 17 or 18 games that are fully completed, quite a few others that are really close, and more that would be if they didn't have MP related achievements but shitty MP with no one who plays it anymore.I got 1000/1000 in Assassin's Creed for Christ's sake!My only real beef with them is it can be hard for me to play a game that I've completed all the achievements for / if I know I'm not working towards getting any. I force myself to get over that though. Originally posted by DosFreak:Never have.
Never will, at least not on purpose.Guess you're not going to play through the 360 version of Call of Duty 2 on the highest difficulty, then. View image here: -Seriously, that's pretty much all it is.
Play through the campaign on normal and hard difficulties (not sure if the latter automatically triggers the former), plus maybe a few combat achievements that pretty much happen on their own during the game (no multiplayer achievements). It's the only game for which I've completed all the achievements, though I do like to shoot for some if the requirements pique my interest. I will as long as they're not preposterous. If you're going to have people collect a zillion flags, there better be some kind of reward besides 10 or 20 GS. I would be happy with a palette swapped outfit, even.Yeah, I didn't bother with any of that once I realized it had no actual reward.I'd like to go for more on Dead Rising, but that 7 day survivor achievement.oy.- edit -Oh, one on my shitlist right now is UFC. There's an achievement for unlocking all the classic fight replays. This would be fine on its own, but you have to win under the exact conditions, like 'arm bar in round 2' or 'KO in round 1'.

Those aren't so bad, but 'win fight by decision' is a serious pain, because you have to be careful not to knock the other guy out or have the ref stop the fight, and then wait for up to 5 damn rounds. For me, it's a mixed bag.
I definitely feel my gameplay-style has changed because of Achievements, but I don't know if that is a good or bad thing.I generally enjoy them when I don't have to think too hard about them, and only really care about getting them for certain games of my own preference. I've found as time goes on, and I get more and more games, I'm starting to care slightly less about them as they pile up. I'm soon to cross the 40k barrier for Gamerscore, and at this point it's only milestones like that that have any meaning, little as they may be.However if I feel like I can get all of them for a game, I generally try to do it. Like many others have mentioned, I have that OCD to want to have completed things for my own stupid desires.
Most games are pretty difficult to get all the things done but I do have a few. Mostly Madden and NCAA for me, though. I really hate multiplayer Achievements because they're usually ridiculous or too time-consuming so I don't bother unless I absolutely love the game.

Just purchased it about a week ago when I preordered AC2 for my PS3. No trophy support. I've done one city, and now I'm bored with the game.I was an achievement whore (broke 30,000 GS on 360 buy purchasing/playing UNO), and still would be if PS3's had more trophy support. Desire remains to go back to my 10th 360 (they like to RROD on me kinda frequently) solely because of the mandatory support of GS.
