Homeworld Cataclysm Windows 7
I installed Homeworld Cataclysm on my Windows 10 machine, applied the 1.01 patch, and tried recommended command line settings I found in various threads online, such as cataclysm.exe /heap 256000000 /enableSSE /triple /disableAVI /safeGL. One recommended thing I wasn't able to do is set compatibility options to NT, which isn't available as an option in the compatibility settings, but I tried other compatibility settings (Windows 95, 98, XP SE2, XP SE3).
I'm also running it in administrator mode.Right now, what I see is that the game doesn't even run. Upon double clicking nothing happens except that Windows brings up a dialogue box asking if this program was installed correctly and if I want to do compatibility troubleshooting. From reading other people's accounts, it sounds like most people are, at the very least, able to get it to launch. What am I missing? I got Cataclysm to work on Windows 10 a while ago, so I know it's possible. From what I remember, the required compatibility mode was removed in Windows 10, so I had to make my own. This is the process I used, to the best of my recollection, but it's been a while. Download and install the.

Download. Run 'Compatibility Administrator (32-bit)'. Open the database you downloaded in (2). It should appear as 'Homeworld Cataclysm' under 'Custom Databases' in the tree on the left pane. Right-click 'Homeworld Cataclysm' and click install. The database I'm using likely includes more compatibility fixes than actually required, but I just copied one of the pre-made compatibility modes and tweaked it a bit (don't ask me what I changed; I don't remember). There's a linked from that contains fixes for both Cataclysm and the original Homeworld.
I gave it a quick try and it seems to work as well, so try that one if the one I made fails for some reason. That, along with the command line flags from your question should hopefully get everything working. For completeness sake, these are the command line flags I have set: /triple /enableSSE /enable3DNow /disableAVI /heap /window /noBorderYou may also have to fiddle with the registry settings under HKEYLOCALMACHINESOFTWAREWOW6432NodeSierra On-LineCataclysm I seem to recall having to set glToSelect to opengl32.dll, and you can also set the screen resolution higher than the in-game settings allow (though widescreen resolutions cause some issues).
Banner images adapted from Walter-NEST's reimaginings of Homeworld 2 skyboxes, foundNo participation mode possible. Okay, working fix (at least for me).
First, go, download and install the hardware acceleration fix that allows the game to run in NT compatibility mode.Next, create a shortcut to your cataclysm.exe file. Right click it, click properties, and change the target to C:your file pathcataclysm.exe /heap 256000000 /enableSSE /triple /disableAVI /safeGLRun Cataclysm.exe using your shortcut, go to the video options and select 'default OpenGL under' 'rendering system.' Close Cataclysm. Now open the start menu and type regedit. Back up your registry in case things go wrong, because editing the registry can seriously mess up your computer.
Find the Cataclysm registry here (for Windows 10):ComputerHKEYLOCALMACHINESOFTWAREWOW6432NodeSierra On-LineCataclysmAlter screenDepth, screenHeight, and screenWidth to match your color depth and screen resolution (respectively 32, 1080, and 1920 for me), making sure to select a decimal base. ScreenHeight and screenWidth are in reverse order from how you're used to seeing them, so don't mix them up.Assuming I haven't missed anything (I've been fiddling and changing things for hours), the game should now run widescreen from the shortcut you created. In theory this should work for the original, un-remastered Homeworld as well. WARNING: The 'Homeworld Hardware Acceleration Fix' does not work with the 'Fall Update' version of Windows 10. Here's how you can still make it work (just tested myself):.Set Cataclysm to run as Admin.Open regedit and navigate to HKEYCURRENTUSERSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionAppCompatFlagsLayers.Find cataclysm.exe's. Entry in the list on the right pane.
Right click and select 'Modify.' .Add the entry 'NT4SP5' (sans quotes) into the field, assuming it's not already present. If there's already an OS compatibility mode shown besides NT4SP5, delete it!
(see for the various codes). This will allow you to successfully set OpenGL mode in Cataclysm.Run Cataclysm and set the video to OpenGL 32-bit (at w/e resolution, you'll change that next anyway), which should now work, then exit.Open regedit and search for 'sierra on-line'; this will find the proper location, guaranteed, but may take a good while.
Expand the node on the left and select the 'Cataclysm' key, which will populate the right pane with various registry settings.Change the values of 'screenDepth' (if you didn't already set it to 32 in Cataclysm), 'screenHeight', and 'screenWidth' to the appropriate values. Make sure you select 'Decimal'!I also use the following command-line switches: '-triple -enable3DNow -heap -enableSSE -disableAVI'. Be aware that larger heap sizes used to work, but I've come across an error lately that made me use this setting instead of a bigger one.
